Music Lessons by Dave Curtis, voted Best Music Teacher in the Valley! Dave works hard to make sure your music lesson will be the most fun you have all week! Learn to play any instrument, any style of music, the songs you want to play, and have fun at the same time! All ages, all levels, from absolute beginners to career musicians.

Instructor Dave Curtis understands why many people shy away from music lessons. Stereotypically, music lessons can be stiff, demanding, and no fun at all, as stringent teachers suck a player’s passion out with rote repetition. Dave’s philosophy is to teach students to play the music they want to play, because he believes music should never stop being joyful. During private, one-on-one lessons, Dave eschews standard chord-gorging and endless rounds of “Mary Had a Little Lamb” and instead teaches students to play the songs they want to play. Dave teaches on most instruments, as students learn to transpose, write, and arrange their own songs. Dave teaches guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, vocals and live performance, as well as music theory, songwriting, composition, arranging, recording and many other aspects of music.

Additionally, Dave Curtis Music Academy offers his students the opportunity to learn to play with other musicians in a live ensemble setting. Dave’s ensemble is exclusively for his private students and provides students an opportunity to take a fun and exciting journey into the world of live performance. Through this exclusive program, students form into bands and learn songs of their choice. Every Friday for 12 weeks, their bands meet and practice as a group at the Dave Curtis Music Academy. The program culminates with a live concert for friends and family where the students will perform, live on stage. Previous venues have included The Whisky A Go-Go, The House of Blues, The Knitting Factory, The Mint, The Joint, The Rack, Catalina’s Bar and Grill, 118 West, The Airtel Plaza and the Sagebrush Cantina, as well as local elementary schools and other events. This year, Spring 2015, marks the 10 year anniversary of the inception of the DCMA Live! Rock and Roll Ensemble and our 20th show. In addition to the ensemble program, Dave offers a Summer Improvisation Course where students learn to play different types of music by learning different improvisational skills. The Summer Improv program concludes with an afternoon concert at the DCMA Studio.

Dave teaches privately in his home studio located in North Hills, CA. For more information about the Dave Curtis Music Academy program, please call Dave at 818-895-6914.
